Terms of service
Last updated 29 September 2026
These terms cover the Magpie website and the Magpie receptionist service for contractors. Your signed order, if you have one, adds the specifics of your plan.
The service
Magpie provides an AI receptionist that answers calls for your business, takes job details, books work into the schedule you connect, rings you on emergencies you define, and rings back callers as described on this site. We set it up for you and tune it during your first 30 days.
What you are responsible for
- Giving us accurate information about your services, prices, service area, hours and what counts as an emergency, and telling us when it changes.
- Your call forwarding, and the phone numbers you ask us to ring you on.
- Honouring the bookings the receptionist makes, or declining them on the crew board so the customer can be offered another time.
- Keeping your own job software account in good standing if you connect one.
What the receptionist will not do
- Quote repair prices over the phone, or promise an arrival time on your behalf.
- Claim to be a person when somebody asks.
- Treat a gas smell, a carbon monoxide alarm, a burning smell or a downed power line as a booking. She tells people to get out and call 911 first.
She is not an emergency service. She does not replace 911, and callers are told to call 911 when a situation needs it.
Fees
The plan: Magpie is a monthly subscription at the price shown in the pricing section. There is no contract. You pay by card through Stripe, our payment processor, before your line goes live, and then each month on the same date until you cancel. We never see or store your card number.
Cancelling: cancel any month from the billing link in your welcome message, or by telling us. The service runs to the end of the month you have paid for and is not charged again. Your own phone number is never affected — you switch your forwarding off with the code in your welcome message.
Money back: if Magpie has not earned its keep in your first 30 days, tell us within those 30 days and we refund everything you have paid, in full, to the card you paid with.
Older offers: a shop that joined on an earlier offer — such as a founding free period — keeps the terms it signed up on until it moves to the plan.
Calls and consent
When you ask us to call you through this website, you agree to be called at that number by an automated AI voice assistant. Say "stop calling" on any call and your number is blocked immediately.
Availability
We work to keep the line answering around the clock, but phone networks and the services we rely on can fail. Magpie is provided without a guarantee of uninterrupted service, and to the extent the law allows, our total liability is limited to the fees you paid in the three months before the claim.
Changes and contact
If these terms change, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Questions: use the Book a call page and ask for Tom.
